Gold Mini Intercom Sneak Preview

I thought I’d share this even though it’s not ready to order yet.  We have a new intercom measuring 10cm x 8cm x 0.5cm.  It actually can be 4mm thick but the rear seal adds 1mm for external applications.  This also makes the audio a little nicer.  We screwed it to a white box for the photo!

C4 GSM Gate and Roller Shutter Control PCB Wiring

C4 Mobile Phone Shutter Controller

The shutter can be opened and closed by calling the SIM card number or sending a SMS text to the SIM card number.  The setup and wiring depends on the configuration of your shutter control panel.

Gate or Garage Door with one ‘Open’ terminal

GSM Roller Shutter Controller

Simple Open Input Controller

For gates and garage door openers with just one ‘open’ connection just the # terminals are used.  Connections are made from the COM# terminal and NO~ terminal.

The following commands are used (sent in a SMS to the SIM card number):

Master <your number>.           …sets your phone up as with admin rights

Add <number>.                       …adds more numbers to the system

Open                                       …open and closes the gate/door

Latch                                       …holds the door/gate open until ‘OPEN’ or ‘OFF#’ sent

Gate or Garage Door with Open and Close Terminals

Phone SMS controller gate roller shutter

C4 to Controller with both Open and Close Terminals

For gates, roller shutters and garage doors with an open and a close terminal the second relay is used.  This allows the GSM unit to close the entry also.

The following commands are used (sent in a SMS to the SIM card number):

Master <your number>.           …sets your phone up as with admin rights

Add <number>.                       …adds more numbers to the system

Channel alt                             …allows first call to open shutter, second call to close it

Open                                       …opens the gate/door

Close                                       …closes the gate/door

Rlymode ring                           …activates output relays whilst phone is ringing

Rlytime xxx.                              …sets the relay output pulse time to xxx seconds

Open/Close send give a pulsed relay output set by the RLYTIME command.  ON*/OFF* and ON#/OFF# activate and deactivate the relay permanently.  Calling the device will operate the relay set by the CHANNEL command (default is #).  CHANNEL ALT will allow one call to operate the # relay and the next to operate the * relay – usefull for opening and closing the shutter.  To operate the shutter only whilst the phone is ringing the RLYMODE RING command is sent.  RLYMODE PULSE return this to the default pulse setting.

v1.07 Software Release for setting up Diallers and Intercoms

Our software allows you to change your dialler and intercom settings, numbers and messages remotely using the internet.  It requires a small amount of data allowance to be available on your SIM.  A session will use a couple of kB.

v1.07 will work with any firmware release from 5.10 onwards.  We can remotely update your dialler and intercom with the latest firmware if required (you must have at least v5.10 to start with).

The software is available from our Downloads page:

Please note currently we do not require installation of the software which is available as a raw EXE file.  If you download this from our website you can trust it.  You may need to click ‘run anyway’ on the Windows security message box.  We will release an installation version over the next few weeks.

GSM Dialler Wiring Diagram

We have a simpler wiring diagram for basic connection available here.  The above diagram allows for controlling the alarm via your phone and monitoring it’s status.  To power the GSM Dialer you can use the auxiliary output on your Texecom panel.  The positive (+) terminal is connected to one of the VIN terminals (the lower one is best as it has on-board thermal fuse protection) and the negative (-) terminal to GND on the GSM Dialer PCB.  You then connect the BELL terminal to input A.

For switching the alarm on and off you wire the output relay to zone 8 using the NC&COM terminals (either way around).  To monitor the status of the alarm you connect the SW terminal to input B.

To program the dialer the following commands are sent:

master <your number>.   This gives you control of the dialler

callnuma <number 1 etc…>.   This sets the numbers to call when the alarm sounds

textnum <numbers>.    This sets the numbers to text when the alarm sounds or is set

textnuma <numbers>.    This is just for when the alarm sounds (a)

textnumb <numbers>.   This would be just for when the alarm is set/unset (b)

To get a message when the alarms starts and stops send:

inlevela both

To get a message when the alarm is set and unset:

inlevelb both

To program the Veritas Panel zone 8 must be set as a key-switch input:

From the Programming Menu, press # followed by the
zone number (8). The Zone Type currently selected will
indicate i.e. Entry/Exit.

Press the Zone Type number required – in this case 8 (keyswitch). Press PROG.
The system will chime to confirm the new Zone Type has
been accepted.

The defaults settings will be correct for the SW output.

The GSM Dialler is available from our online shop here

GSM Intercoms – popular with spiders!

We received an early intercom back in the post today for a firmware update.  The early versions used the # key to release the gate instead of the * key we use now.  For reasons best left to a mathematician to explain decoding the # key is harder than decoding the * key so we swapped over a couple of years ago.

Advent Controls GSM Doorphone

Old GSM Intercom

We decode audio in software using a Discrete Fourier Transform to determine what frequency sounds are present, if any.  Searching for the * key frequencies always works better given the sample rate we use.  It’s a bit too complicated to understand we just know it works better this way.

Spiders webs inside GSM intercom

3 year old GSM Intercom

What is remarkable and not unexpected is how many spiders we found had been living inside the unit.  They’re dead now of course!  We often get asked what the IP rating of the intercom is and people seem disappointed that it is only IP45.  This is due to the cable chute in the rear which is fully open but pointing downwards.  To rain water falling from above we have every interface fully sealed and have never had issues with water ingress – apart from one unit which was missing a seal but we don’t count that!  This unit has been outside for 3 years in all conditions and we’re happy to report the spiders’ home has never been flooded.
